Abstract

Controlled release of simple phenolic compounds has been achieved using sulphonated polystyrene resins. Phenols can be loaded directly onto the polymer from aqueous solution or incorporated as the potential phenol via the stabilised diazonium sulphonate. This allows the production of potent new sex attractant lures for the male grass grub beetle, Costelytra zealandica (White). These novel types of attractant formulation have a considerably longer field life than those previously available.
