Abstract

In our work we outlined introduction of QoS architecture inside a geostationary satellite network. The satellite architecture considered is the EuroSkyWay platform in which a GEO satellite in Ka band with on board processing (OBP) payload can interface with heterogeneous broadband networks. We have considered the QoS architecture defined by IETF, Integrated Services (IntServ), and we have studied in particular the class of service controlled load and the behaviour of the system loaded with controlled load traffic and guaranteed traffic. The satellite call admission control supports the statistical multiplexing of traffic over the air interface. When a new connection request is received from the ESW network the CAC procedure is operated to decide if to accept the call or not. A call is accepted if the network has sufficient resources to satisfy the QoS requisite that the connection requests without touching the requisite guaranteed to the existing connection.
