Abstract
Successive and mild anodic treatments have been performed on boron-doped diamond electrodes in H 2 SO 4 . The evolution of surface properties, induced by these electrochemical treatments, has been monitored by systematic contact angle measurements coupled with capacitance-voltage analysis. From the reproducible and continuous increase of the surface wettability during the anodic process, a progressive appearance of oxygenated terminations is suggested. A reliable correlation between wettability evolution and coulometric charges has been established and permits considering wetting measurements as a qualitative and quantitative probe of surface oxidation level. Effect of this progressive surface oxidation on flatband potential displacement is discussed.
