Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of controllable suction toothbrush in the oral nursing care of critical patients.Methods 120 critical patients from ICU were randomly divided an observation group and a control group,with 60 cases in each group.The observation group were flushed,sucked,and brushed with controllable suction toothbrush,while the control group were orally nursed with conventional cotton ball dipping in saline scrub.The nursing efficacies were compared.Results 12 and 2 patients had bad breath,22 and 4 got oral ulcer,and 16 and 4 were positive in oral secretion culture in the control group and the observational group,respectively,with statistical differences(P < 0.05).Conclusions Cleaning oral cavity with controllable suction toothbrush for critical patients can avoid aspiration and reduce oral complications and pulmonary infection,is convenient,and can save time and improve work efficiency.
