Abstract

ABSTRACT In this paper, the machine repair problem with operating machines and two removable servers is investigated. The failed machines are repaired under the multiple working vacations and triadic policy. Steady state probabilities that describe the number of failed machines in system are derived and taken in closed form. Different performance measures of the system are analysed to investigate the reliability of the model. MATLAB software is used to compute steady-state probabilities and several system performance measures. The total expected cost function per machine per unit time is formulated and analysed. Grid search algorithm is implemented to determine the optimal working vacation service rate and optimal operating policy at the global minimum cost. Sensitivity analysis with numerical illustrations is also provided. It is seen that the multiple working vacations policy played a significant role in the wise utilization of the server’s working capacity.
