Abstract

We propose a non-Hermitian optical model to explore the linear and nonlinear output characteristics involving the parity-time (PT)-like symmetry. It is found that the tunable linear transmission rate and Kerr nonlinear coefficient can be enhanced greatly in such a PT-like-symmetric system, especially at the phase transition (exceptional) point. Based on that, by the proper choice of system parameters, the output spectrum can realize, simultaneously, the high linear transmission rate and the giant Kerr nonlinear coefficient with diminutive nonlinear absorption, and such an output characteristic is useful for dispersion compensation in the optical communication.
