Abstract

The fluid film in spiral groove mechanical seal is with a micron-size thickness and can easily be broken by external dis- turbance.Based on the coupling analysis of the flow of fluid film,the heat transfer and thermal deformation of sealing rings,the geometrical size of the fluid film which corresponds to the given closing force can be determined and then the temperature of the sealing rings and the leakage rate are obtained.The control method of spiral groove mechanical seal is developed by taking the inside temperature of stationary ring and the leakage rate as feedback parameters and the closing force as adjusting parameter.Based on this method as well as feedback and adjustment,the controllable operation of spiral groove mechanical seals can be realized and their adaptability to the variable work condition is improved.
