Abstract

Flywheel Energy Storage System(FESS) may encounter grid voltage drop/rise disturbances during grid-connected operation, then will be disconnected from the grid for protecting itself. The control strategy of flywheel energy storage converter during grid voltage disturbances is studied in this paper. Based on the analysis of the FESS structure and the control strategy of the converter under steady operation conditions, the transient characteristics of the FESS active power and DC bus voltage during grid voltage disturbances are studied, and a control strategy flywheel energy storage converter during grid voltage disturbances is proposed. The proposed strategy can stabilize the DC bus voltage to continue non-off-grid operation of the FESS. At the same time, it can provide a certain reactive power support to the grid during grid voltage disturbances and help the voltage recovery on the grid-side. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
