Abstract

In distributed drive electric vehicle (DDEV), electric motors are connected to each wheel separately, the drive/brake torque of each wheel can be independently and precisely controlled. According to this characteristic, a control strategy of emergency steering return based on driver's intention is developed. Firstly, a steering return recognition model is designed to discriminate the driver's intention of emergency steering return; then a yaw moment model is established to calculate the required yaw moment. Also, the corresponding allocation algorithm is designed. Finally, joint simulations in CarSim & Simulink are conducted. The results indicate that in emergency steering return maneuvers, the vehicle stability characteristic is improved remarkably and also the driver's steering load is lowered, the pass ability of the vehicle is enhanced. The proposed algorithm is effective to keep the vehicle stability.
