Abstract

The experience of developping a hierarchical control strategy in an industrial flotation column circuit is discussed. The system was installed in two columns, located in the copper cleaning circuit at Salvador. This concentrator produces over two hundreds thousands tons per year of 30 % copper concentrate. The supervisor control considered mainly three aspects: process data validation, metallurgical objectives control and operating problems detection. Plant characteristics, its instrumentation and distributed control system, and how some of the actual operating problems were solved are discussed. The system was installed in august 1997, and fine tuning was completed by october 1997.
