Abstract
Abstract - A class of variational data assimilation problems of reconstructing initialvalue functions is considered for the case when the operator in the original evolution problem is nonlinear, nonsymmetric, and time-dependent. The properties of control operators are studied and solvability theorems are proved for linear and quasilinear data assimilation problems. Iterative algorithms are formulated and justified.
