Abstract

The objective of this paper is to present new trends in the development of cable-stayed bridges and to review practicable control techniques concerning wind-induced vibrations. That contains the results of examinations carried out by the Institute of Light-Weight Structures of the Aachen Technical University and the DSD Dillinger Steel Construction Ltd., Germany. The paper is limited to a review of passive means to control the dynamic deflections of the bridge structures. The examples used are drawn from experiences in full-scale investigations of bridge decks, pylons and cables of cable-stayed bridges.
