Abstract

AbstractSeveral types of controllers on biological reactors were optimised to adjust the biomass recycle flow rate in response to step and sine changes in the feed concentration and feed flow rate. All controllers eliminated the error in the effluent substrate concentration except near the mid‐range frequency of 0.5 cycles residence time. Relay controllers gave results comparable with the more sophisticated types and are recommended for plant operation due to their simplicity.
