Abstract

In this paper, the topology of two-stage matrix converter (TSMC, also named indirect matrix converter) based on RB-IGBT has been presented. TSMC has the similar input/output performance as conventional matrix converter. Though there is a real DC link, no energy-stored capacitor is between the positive and negative of DC link. The unbalance of the source voltages can immediately reflect to the output of TSMC. The performance is degraded and the harmonics are generated in the input/output currents. A direct feed-forward optimization control scheme is developed to reduce the influence of input voltage unbalance to the load. The fundamental components of source voltages are first detected by ip-iq method. The results of simulation and experiments on a 10kW two-stage matrix converter prototype using RB-IGBT validate the performance of the proposed control method.
