Abstract

Since the initial materials for the synthesis of phenformin, ~-phenylethylamine hydrochloride and dicyanodiamide, do not appear to be inert in organisms, it is necessary to control the purity of the product. We did not find any information in the literature about this question. The United States Pharmacopeia, 19th edition [i], wherein phenformin is listed, cites a paper chromatographic method for the identification and standardization only of biguanide and uses as a quality reference a standard form of the preparation.
