Abstract

An approach to solving control problems for thermal processes with phase transitions is proposed. The problem of controlling the phase boundary evolution in the course of solidification in metal casting is studied by following this approach. A mathematical model of this process is underlain by a three-dimensional nonstationary two-phase initial–boundary value problem of the Stefan type. The control function is determined by solving the optimal control problem formulated in this work.
