Abstract

Control of by-pass transition induced by streaky structures in laminar boundary layer flow is attempted by localized suction and blowing at the wall. It is shown that suction below a low velocity streak and blowing below a high velocity streak may hinder or delay breakdown to turbulence. It is also shown that the timing is important, and that the most effective control is achieved at the front of the longitudinal structure.
