Abstract

Application of thiabendazole to potato tubers cv. King Edward before storage was investigated with different formulations applied as sprays, fogs or smoke. All formulations decreased the incidence of skin spot and silver scurf. In bulk stores thiabendazole as fog or smoke was applied from ventilation ducts in the floor. Residues on tubers decreased and disease incidence increased with increasing height above the floor. More uniform deposition of thiabendazole on tubers was obtained with sprays applied before storage in boxes and diseases were better controlled. Tecnazene improved control of skin spot whereas chlorpropham increased its incidence. Neither sprout suppressant affected the incidence of silver scurf.
