Abstract

The porous metals with directional elongated pores are characterized by three important parameters: the pore direction, pore size, and porosity. The pore direction can be adjusted by changing the direction of unidirectional solidification as shown before. Here we describe the way how to control the pore size and the porosity by adjusting the solidification velocity and ambient gas pressure and by addition of oxide particles.
