Abstract

In this paper, a new control scheme for front-end converter extended with shunt active filter is proposed. So far there have been quite a lot of extensive investigations into control of active filter as well as of front-end PWM converter. Basically, they are hardware devices configured similarly, both ones based on the PWM converter. The conventional front-end converter is used to control the power flow ex- changed between the grid and load, while the active filter is functioned to draw reactive power from the grid and to com- pensate those reactive power to the grid. From the view of power flow control, they are similar, meaning that they could be combined into one front-end converter and do their jobs in parallel. Thereby, the conventional front-end converter can be extended functionally with active filter without any hardware added. In this work, the proposed control scheme was investi- gated on the front-end voltage source converter and verified by simulation.
