Abstract
Microcrystals of organic dyes with a defined size and crystal orientation were prepared by casting a dilute dye solution onto a substrate. A dewetting leads to the formation of amorphous ‘dome’ structures of the dye of micrometer-range diameters and submicrometer heights. Annealing and/or sonication of the samples lead to crystallization of the amorphous domes and the formation of crystal fibers or microcrystals, depending on the annealing conditions.
