Abstract

New and standard insecticides were evaluated for control of Hylemya brassicae (Bouche). Insecticides were broadcast as presown soil treatments, placed in the seed furrow at planting, and applied as postemergence drenches. Of new materials tested, carbofuran, Dasanit® ( O,O -diethyl O-[p- (methylsulfinyl) phenyl] phosphorothioate) and Zino Phos® ( O,O -diethyl O -2-pyraziny] phosphorothioate) gave more consistent control than diazinon, which is recommended currently for control of the cabbage maggot. Furrow and drench methods of application were better than broadcast treatment as judged by the levels of control achieved.
