Abstract

This paper presents experimental results obtained from a PM double sided axial field machine with central rotor intended for use in an electric vehicle (EV) direct wheel drive. The configuration represents the stators of the machine being attached to the chassis of the car whilst the rotor directly drives the road wheel. However, perturbation of the rotor while the vehicle is moving will cause torque fluctuations in the machine. It is shown that these torque pulsations can be eliminated by the modulation of the input motor current using a signal obtained from the identification of the flux. (8 pages)
