Abstract
In this paper, a closed loop control scheme for a novel high gain dc-dc converter is proposed. The converter is based on the topology of quadratic boost and the concept of gain cells. High voltage gain is achieved by parallel charging of inductors and capacitors and series discharge. The proposed converter has notable merits such as high gain with a single switch, absence of coupled inductor and absence of transformer. The new converter has the potential of achieving more than ten times voltage gain. This high gain can be achieved by operating the converter at moderate duty cycle. A PI controller is used to verify the dc-dc converter closed loop performance. The parameters of the control were designed using the system identification toolbox. By proper tuning, the duty ratio of the switch varies thereby maintaining desired output voltage in spite of input, load and tracking variations. The detailed analysis of the converter and its principle of working were presented. The simulations were carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
