Abstract

The control system for the MURA 50-MeV electron accelerator is designed for maximum versatility consistent with ease of operation and personnel and component protection. Since the purpose of this project is to study many different accelerator phenomena, and the accelerator is capable of producing intense background radiation, it must be capable of functioning in several modes of operation and observation with adequate safety precautions. In addition to the flexible injection, acceleration, and beam stacking controls, accurate probe positioning devices are needed for detailed analysis of beam characteristics. Numerous limiting interlocks on various components and systems are also necessary because of the extremely tight tolerances involved. A description of some of the major control elements is presented and the over-all system described.
