Abstract

The development of the main power supplies of the Fast Field Cycling (FFC) Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) apparatus has been done using different types of semiconductors, control methods and topologies. All the known power supplies should perform a linear current control. In this paper, the main characteristics and operating principle of a power supply fulfilling the requirements of the FFC NMR technique are described. In particular, a power losses analysis supported by experimental results is performed for typical operating modes.
