Abstract
This issue of IEEE Control System Magazine (CSM) has two feature articles. The first presents control strategies for improving the performance of an advanced scientific detector, and the second provides a tutorial on submodularity, an important system property in the design of many control systems. The two articles and the rest of the issue contents are briefly summarized.
