He is currently working on a history of Afro-Uruguayan social, cultural, and political movements, 1800 – 2000.alejandro de la fuente is Associate Professor of History at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the author of A Nation for All: Race, Inequality, and Politics in Twentieth Century Cuba (UNC Press, 2001), which was also published, in Spanish translation, by Editorial Colibrí in 2001, and the editor of “Su único derecho: Los esclavos y la ley,” a special issue of the journal Debate y Perspectivas, published in 2004.
