Abstract

The superfamily Reduvioidea was established by Reuter (1910) who placed it with the Cimicoidea and Aradoidea in the series Anonychia. Later (1912) he added the Tingoidea to Anonychia and removed from it the Aradoidea. Leston, Pendergrast and Southwood (1954), favoring the practice of basing the nomenclature of higher categories on generic names, have designated a group more or less equivalent to Reuter's Anonychia as Cimicomorpha. These authors place the remainder of the terrestrial Heteroptera in a second group, the Pentatamorpha.
