Abstract
The 9 species and subspecies of the genus Nosopsyllus Jordan, 1933, occurring in Africa are discussed in relation to their known distribution, host preferences and taxonomic status. N. (G.) henleyi mauretanicus (Jordan & Rothschild 1912) is placed as a synonym of N. (G.) henleyi henleyi (Rothschild 1904). N. (G.) henleyi oranus (Jordan 1931) is raised to species status and Nosopsyllus paganus Peus 1949, is considered to be a synonym of Nosopsyllus fasciatus (Bose 1800). A key to the African species of the genus is included.
