Abstract

EnglishIn comparison with the River Plate region and Cuba, the Pacific republics did not stand out as preferred destinations for Spanish emigrants during the time of the great immigration (1850 - 1930). The Chilean particular case also did not show very important volumes with around twenty thousand Spaniards around 1900. Although there are very good works on the Spanish migration to Chile, the study of its press has been relegated. Within the set of newspapers that immigrants undertook in cities such as Santiago and Valparaiso, some experiences will be analyzed, such as the newspaper La voz de Espana, directed by the writer Genaro Cavestany and the monthly magazine Espana y Chile directed by Luis Moncayo and Telmo Arena.
