Abstract

This presentation reviews contributions made over 2 decades by Ted Schultz to the technical literature on community effects of environmental noise exposure. Two of his best‐known contributions to assessment of environmental impacts of noise exposure are: (1) a much‐cited reference book and (2) a well‐known (and initially highly controversial) empirical dosage‐response relationship for the prevalence of annoyance. Ted made a number of important, but less well known, contributions as well, however. At the time of his death, he was collaborating on development of another, theoretically based dosage‐response relationship for the U. S. Air Force NSBIT program, as well as on a handbook chapter on annoyance.
