Contributions of Children’s Hospital Ricardo Gutiérrez to Pediatric Cardiac Surgery

Abstract

The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery was createdby Dr. Eduardo Galindez more than 50 years agoin the former children’s hospital garden. It was thestarting point for the opening of the Argentine PediatricCardiovascular School, which strengthened afterthe beginning of the residency program, in 1972. Thefirst resident was Dr. Andres Schlichter, who becamepart of a solid team of professionals for more than 42years. Since then, internationally recognized contributionshave been made at the Children’s Hospitaland Clinica Bazterrica. Those contributions will bepresented here in chronological order, so as to appreciatehow ideas were developed.
