Abstract

This paper proposes contributions to the estimation of technical and non-technical losses in distribution systems considering the weighted least squares state estimator (WLS-SE). First, the relation between loss estimation and measurement errors is analyzed considering the linear state estimation model. Based on this analysis, a new measurement weighting is proposed considering the results of a method that identify suspect consumers. Additionally, the proposed method considers equality constrains to model zero injection buses in the state estimator. The method estimates technical losses in all segments and non-technical loses in all buses. A case study was performed in a distribution system with, respectively, 7 % and 6 % of non-technical and technical losses. The results of case study demonstrate the proposed method's is improved accuracy compared to the state of the art. Easy to implement computer routines built on the classical WLS state estimator highlights methods potential aspects for real-life applications.
