Abstract

As advances are made in military technology, improvements in weapons occur. This in turn may refine war-fighting tactics as well as give rise to new ones. A number of technological developments either contribute or will contribute in the near future towards fulfilment of the aims of the counter-vailing strategy. The two main areas which have direct relevance are new developments in nuclear weapons and the advances made in military space technology. Another development in space technology worth mentioning in connection with war doctrines is that of high-energy beam weapons. An intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) or other vehicle carrying its lethal payload is subjected to a number of forces which affect the final accuracy with which it reaches the target. The probability of destroying a target, for example, a silo containing an ICBM, depends on several factors. Some of these are the yield of the war-head, the accuracy with which it can be delivered to the target, and so on.
