Abstract

Contribution to the specific heat of crystals due to pinned twist disclinations is studied within the vibrating string model. For this purpose, a line tension and an effective mass of a sliding twist disclination is calculated. Both the line tension and the effective mass are found to vary along the disclination line as z 2. On this basis, the model of heterogeneous string is formulated for the description of the vibrating pinned twist disclination. A solution to the equation of motion for heterogeneous string is obtained. The specific heat due to twist disclinations is found to be the linear function of the temperature and the defect density.
