Abstract

This study investigated the contribution of mental well-being and physical fitness on the result of futsal and table tennis matches at Behbahan high school boys in Iran. Participants were 60 boys aged 16–18 years out of which 20 students were recruited among futsal teams and 20 students among table tennis teams of school memberships (Empirical groups = EGs), and 20 students recruited randomly among those who were not interested in any physical activities (Sedentary group = SG). The EGs, after 5 sessions, 1.5 hours a day for identifying the rules, regulations and teaching, participated in a period of matches during 8 weeks, as a 2-day competition, and 1 day for solving their probable problems. Goldberg and Hillier's 28-item scaled version of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), as a pre-test were administered on the total of participants, but the SG did not participate in any physical activity. The results showed that promotion in quality of mental well-being totally, was related to better scores of the matches’ result in both of the EGs (P<0.05), and the relationship between some of the fitness tests and the score's matches were considerable. Therefore, correlation of mental wellbeing points and shuttle run test were significant with the results of matches. Thus, according to these results, the regression model was made for table tennis players by mental well-being points and shuttle run test with f = 4.27 and P = 0.03. Furthermore, the result of the GHQ-28 in the EGs was significantly different than the SG (P=0.002). Thus, according to the findings, the regression model was made for futsal players by fitness tests that with f = 4.08 and P = 0.02, important predictors were included 1 mile-run, standing broad jump, shuttle-run and 30m-sprint tests.
