Abstract

The nonlinear reflection of the second harmonic at oblique incidence is measured in the reststrahl band of the Z 3-exciton of CuCl. Due to two-photon selection rules longitudinal excitons can be excited. The measurements show clear evidence that the longitudinal polarization wave contributes to the coherent process of second harmonic generation.
