Abstract
The Raether mechanism of the spark formation is applied to a streamer chamber and discussed. This leads to a more accurate calculation of the critical number of electrons and of the avalanche and streamer dimensions. Effect of pulse rise-time, delay and shape is analysed and leads to conclusions on the track appearance. Experimental evidence of most of the calculations is given.
