Abstract

Studies on the polymerization of polyacrylamide gels used for electrophoresis. II. Effect of several factors on the degree of polymerization and on the sensitivity of gels to osmotic pressure In order to determine compositions of solutions giving gels suitable for electrophoresis, we studied the degree of polymerization and the volume changes of gels due to osmotic pressure as a function of reactant concentrations. On the basis of the results of this study, it is possible to obtain a more reproducible degree of polymerization and to increase the stability of the polyacrylamide gel.
