Abstract

The ability to put the hands in the service of the intellect has been considered a very important factor in the process of human evolution. Thus, the objective of this study was to describe and analyze the theoretical contributions of Marxism and Darwinism for understanding the relationship between the ability to handle and the process of human evolution. Therefore, we presented the distinction between the concepts of labor and work. Furthermore, we discussed the main concepts of Marxism and Darwinism on the importance of proficient use of hands for the human evolution. It was concluded that both Marxism and Darwinism consider the gradual acquisition of the ability to use the hands as a key variable in the process of human evolution.
