Abstract

Four cases of postoperative contralateral pneumothorax are presented. In two, the condition developed after pneumonectomy and in two it followed lobectomy. Immediate thoracentesis and suction-drainage was successful in three patients. Contralateral pneumothorax was diagnosed during operation in one, and in two immediately after surgery. In one case it developed on the 24th postoperative day. Early diagnosis and immediate treatment are lifesaving.
