Abstract

The moral limits of consumption, as identified by categories of 'immoral' exchanges in contract laws, diverged across the EU’s Member States. This paper submits that as a consequence of the EU’s multi-level legal structure, which includes (mandatory) standards of consumer protection that aim at uniformity, European legal protection may be available for consumers of sexual services. This paper explores the conflicting, or at least counterintuitive, application of legal protection for consumers of sexual services, discussing the potentially available contractual remedies for consumers, such as specific performance or compensation in case of non-conformity.
