Abstract

ABSTRACT Many academic librarians responsible for the management of electronic resources have not been formally trained to review or negotiate license agreements. Stephanie Hess and Megan Kilb provided a framework for successfully developing a process that includes the creation of personalized checklists, negotiation strategies, and drafting of legal provisions. They reviewed standard licensing terms and identified challenging clauses that e-resource librarians are likely to encounter. The interactive format allowed attendees to explore examples of potentially problematic language found in contracts and develop strategies to prioritize contract clauses for more adept license negotiation.
