Abstract
Epilepsy is a common neurological disease in women worldwide, and more than 50% of women with epilepsy experience unplanned pregnancy. Effective contraception for women with epilepsy of childbearing potential is important, as many antiepileptic drugs interact with hormonal contraception and have the risk of teratogenicity. However, many clinicians and women with epilepsy have insufficient knowledge regarding proper contraception. This article reviews the interactions of antiepileptic drugs with hormonal contraception and offers practical recommendations for contraception management in women with epilepsy.
