To the Editor: In the letter of Jean Buckalew (in the September 2 issue of the Journal) under the caption Feminist Disagreement on Abortion The Last Paragraph refers to All the effective contraceptive measures available to men and women including voluntary sterilization. Along with Effectiveness The factors of safety and acceptance injluence use. The following happens in practice: About 5 per cent of males will use prophylaxis; according to a recent poll of college males 5 per cent would agree to voluntary sterilization (Sterilization is more dangerous and less successful in females); safe and acceptable contraception for females has not yet been provided by medical science; and it is females who die from the effects of contraceptives abortions childbirth and sterilization (About 2000 per Year in the United States from complications of pregnancy); yet there is not a female on the population control council.
