Abstract

Based on general observed facts of the continuum emission of white-light flares, we investigated semi-empirically the relation between the continuum spectrum and model atmospheres through a series of non-LTE model calculations. The results show that either a temperature increase in deep layers of the photosphere or the existence of a plateau structure in the transition region can explain the observed white-light enhancement. As to theoretical explanations of such structures, we also put forward certain views.
