Abstract
The shell-model approach to nuclear reactions is applied to the photonuclear giant resonance of 12C. A separable approximation method is presented and its accuracy is tested. The characteristic features of the (γ, n) and (γ, p) cross-sections are fairly well described by taking into account the low-lying excited states of the residual mass-11 system.
