Abstract

A surface ionization source with a controlled work function has been produced by exposing a polycrystalline tungsten filament to a steady flow of oxygen. The displacement of characteristic method was used to determine its electron work function at different temperatures. The data are supported by the evidence of surface ionization of aluminium.
