Abstract

In this work, a solid YAG polymer precursor was synthesized. And the YAG ceramic fiber with the highest tensile strength of 1.56 GPa and modulus of 252 GPa was fabricated. The green fiber with a uniform diameter of 16 μm was sintered to 600 °C in steam to obtain inorganic fiber. The crystal-form transition and the crystal size during the sintering process from 900 °C to 1500 °C were investigated by in-situ XRD. The ceramic fibers were sintered at different temperatures to obtain ceramic YAG fiber. The YAG fiber produced at 1100 °C exhibited the maximum tensile strength owing to its small diameter of 10 μm, small particle size of 23 nm, and compact microscopic structure. Due to its tiny diameter, the prepared YAG ceramic continuous fiber is soft enough to be woven into the fabric, making it promising in use.
